Corton-Charlemagne est nommé d'après l'empereur Charlemagne, qui fut le propriétaire de ce vignoble.

THE WORLD OF FINE WINE  MATTHEW HEMMING 2019

Tasted from the Burgfest Festival. A reductive and smoky nose. Quite lean fruit here but the wine has the intensity to balance and holds its line.

BURGHOUND 2018

(from all 3 communes, with the majority from Aloxe).
Enough wood to notice is present on the elegant if restrained nose of green apple, white flower and wet stone scents. There is fine volume to the concentrated bigbodied and intensely stony flavors that retain a fine sense of energy and delineation on the saline-inflected, citrusy and beautifully persistent finish. This linear and mildly austere effort isn’t refined but again, it’s of high quality.

BURGUNDY REPORT BILL NANSEN 2018
Here the nose is rather modest – it has width but on a very subtle level. A little too much gas today. But then the flavours arrive and start to melt over the palate, some modest rigour but a wave of complexity, and getting all the more attractive along the way… Then a change of gear in the finish with extra flavour and just a long, long, time losing effect… I lose myself sometimes in the wines this vintage and the top two or three were all from Charlemagne…

INSIDE BURGUNDY JASPER MORRIS 2018
94 points
Clear brght colour with lemon and lime tints. The nose is reticent but classy, lots of energy here but descreet. Chiselled on the palate yet with a fabulous wealth of fruit, perfectly balanced, middleweight plus for a grand cru, lovely long finish.

JAMES SUCKLING
94-95 points
A linear and tight Corton-Charlemagne with a sliced-apple, lemon and dried-mango character. Full-bodied, compact and racy. Needs two or three years of bottle age.

WINE SPECTATOR 2018
95 points
Intense and spicy, with a core of peach, apple and mineral flavors driven by the bracing acidity. Builds to a long, lingering aftertaste focused on the mineral element, but also echoing fruit and spice notes. Shows terrific length and potential. Best from 2020 through 2038. From France.
